DACC FEATURE CAR

Leroyce and LaNelle Jones of Tyler own this beautiful 1955 Bel Air Chevy 2-door hardtop.  It had a full frame off restoration 5 years before they bought it about 3 years ago.  The small block 327 engine has a 4 barrel Holley carburetor backed up with a 700R transmission and is stopped with front disc brakes on a Mustang II front end.  The custom interior is red leather with red leather ruching in the door panels.  The seats are stock, but built up to oversize with double padding and with the word “Bel Air” embroidered in the back panels of each seat.  The carpeting is red as is the fully carpeted trunk.

The Jones family enjoy driving their ’55 Chevy with friends who also enjoy classic cars.  They frequently take their motor home and tow their Classic, so they have a place to sleep when they get to their destination.  That’s exactly what they did at the 20th Annual Classic Chevy Fall Foliage Tour that DACC sponsored in Broken Bow, Oklahoma in October 2013.

Also in 2013, they drove this car 4,000 miles on the Hot Rod Power Tour from Arlington, Texas, to Charlotte, North Carolina.  Then they came back past the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky on their way home.  They’ve been to Cruisin the Coast in Gulfport, Mississippi, five times most recently in 2013.

Their other classic cars include a ‘49 Mercury Convertible, ‘32 Ford Roadster, ‘56 Chevy 2-door sedan  and a ‘57 Chevy 4-door hardtop.  Leroyce also has a very special ‘54 Chevy truck that has had a frame-off restoration.   It has a ‘54 title but has an unusual one-piece windshield, which he says qualifies it as a 55!
