I have a 55 chevy with th350 and 4.11. The car runs 3,000 at 55mph. I would like to start driving to the track and more events. Do you think I will have problems? If so what. I can not put a 700r now or traler it. I would need a truck and traler. Thank's

It is a 355 new rebuild B&M trans. It runs cool 180 and 60psi oil.

I feel your pain. I have similar problems. I have a 3:42 and at one time a 3:55 rear ratio with a 4 speed with a 1:1, 4th gear. 2750 rpm is about 60 mph; 3000 is 65 or so.

The biggest problem I have when I run over 3000 rpm is that the car vibrates different bolts loose.

She use to overheat but I replace the radiator and that problem was fixed.

And of course your gas mileage will be terrible. I get around 10 mpg on a good day.

My 2 cents. Drive it and don't worry about it. The only way you will find out if high rpms will cause a problem is to get it out on the road and find out. Also, If you have a boat you would run 4000 to 5000 rpm all day and not worry about it.

FWIW, my car has a 3.73 rear gear ratio and a 265-60X15 rear tires and a 700R4. In 3rd, one-to-one ratio, it will show 3000 RPM at 66 MPH. In overdrive, it will do 94 MPH also at 3000 RPM. I went to a chart on the internet and did calculations using a 4.10 rear gear, in 3rd at 3000 RPM the speed will be 60 MPH. in overdrive 3000 RPM will indicate 86 MPH. Several years ago, I towed a trailer with my '57 and kept it in 3rd as I did not want to lug the engine with the trailer in 4th, and drove it from Minnesota taching about 3300 RPM without any difficulties.
