Several members are helping me put a new rear end under my 56 Nomad tonight (Mon, July 11) starting about 6 pm.

Anyone who wants to come and help... or just hang out is welcome.
Call Bill Preston for directions (405) 412-0502 or (972) 691-4968

Wives are invited to come and learn the "skill" of playing "Chicken Feet"
a necessity for enjoying the Fall Foliage Tour in Sept.

Thanks to Neal Bellamy, Don Andre, Dennis Lind and Kerry Love for all the help this evening. There's a LOT of talent and skill in this group!!!
I have to shorten my drive shaft to accommodate the rear end change, but all I lack is putting it back in with NEW U-joints. Mine were drier than the heat in Phoenix. Good thing we found THAT!!!!

I had a stock 3.08 third member in the Nomad. I changed it to a 74 Nova 3.08 rear end. Didn't change the gear ratio, even though I'd have liked to.
This was a pretty easy swap (so far) It's the same width and didn't have to make any change to the emergency brake cable. The brake lines just needed minor adjustment.

the original ring gear & pinion was bad and the housing was leaking grease out on the brake shoe. It was also making a noise... which was surely the U-joints

We'll take about 1 1/4" out of the drive shaft.
I'm going to go to Hardin Drive Shaft in Lewisville to get it altered.
If that doesn't pan out I may be asking for recommendations.

Oops! Shocked Hardin doesn't do old style drive shafts.
I'm on my way to English truck parts in Denton!!!

Somehow I think I should have started this whole post on Technical forum
Kerry just picked up the sunglasses he left last night...
Someone left a Summit hat... guess you'll have to come back Wink
