DACC had a nice turnout of club cars for the 1st race of the season..

Always a neat event to see the wide mixture of cars making passes down the strip - click here for a sample - http://w167.photobucket.com/pbwidget.swf?pbwurl=http://w167.photobucket.com/albums/u158/DACCphotos/09%2003%20TMCCC/f41cf689.pbw

DACC racers in attendance -

Ralph Sandlin with son Eric at the wheel

Tom Walker

James Carson

Here is a mental rememberance of the full day of action. It was non-stop to the end. To start out the really high horsepower car's drivers described traction problems as very slippery at the starting line (and it was obvious to us observers). Of course, after this week's rainstorm most of the traction was indeed washed away. On to my rememberance, the Sandlin family had their '57 2 door station wagon on hand driven by son Eric in the stock muscle class, Billy Walker's '55 in Super Pro Muscle (the really fast class) The club's March Feature Car of Ralph Sandlin was the Muscle Class class winner driven by Ralph Sandlin's son Eric. The Walker's '55 NHRA Class high powered 540 BBC '55 was a traction loser in the 1st round. Sonny Poteet suffered the same traction demise with his surperb supercharged '55 leaving the action after round 2. James Carson's 57 left the action after round 1. Lastly your's truly pulled the big red light in round 4 of the King Muscle rounds. In the "race of champions" the powerful Walker '55 and James Carson's LS-1 '57 were resubmitted. I lost track of the Billy's '55 as I was still in the competition, but the Carson '57 went 3 rounds before being eliminated. All in all the Dallas Area Clasic Chevys did indeed collect some club points at this event and this was probably the best season starter ever. This was an exceptionally cool ambient temperature race and the horsepower witnessed was evident in the mph readings for most cars. For improvements at the next event we should try to stage the club's participating cars in close proximity in the track pits.
