TOUR TO THE TOMBSTONES RALLY

You’re invited to join us for the next Texas Region SCCA Road Rally on Oct 5. We will tour Grayson and Cooke Counties and visit a number of cemeteries, many of them designated historic. Course–following will be easy with mileages at every turn. All roads are paved.

Rally Day is Saturday, October 5, 2013. Registration opens at 8:30am at El Guapo's Restaurant, in Denton at 419 S Elm St., Denton, TX 76201, phone (940) 566-5575. First car out about 9:30, and you will come back to El Guapo's for a late lunch.

You will be directed to a number of area cemeteries in Cook and Grayson counties. At each one you will record the name, and at some of them, you will have to find another piece of information. At the end of the course you will find the cemetery names in a Word Search puzzle.

This is an SCCA GTA (Games, Tours, Adventures) rally. This is not a timed event, except that you do have an overall amount of time to finish the event. This time will be generous. There will be no reason to speed. Any kind of street-legal four-wheel vehicle with at least two people aboard who can read may enter. Cars built before 1950 get a little extra time.

The Rally Fee is $20.00 for SCCA Members, and $25.00 for non-members. There is a $5.00 late fee if not preregistered at motorsportReg.com. There are four classes: First Timer, Novice (<3 rally trophies), General, and Master.

You will want to do online registration (at msreg.com/TTT13msr) because then you will be mailed the rally rules a few days before the event.

Join us!

PS: We are holding a Rallymaster's School on September 21 in Richardson. If you are interested in learning how to write a roadrally, email rally@texasscca.org.

The rules have been mailed to the first batch of entrants. There are fifteen so far, and it's quite a mix of cars:

Chevrolet Corvette - 2
Dodge Challenger - 1
Ferrari 328GTS - 1
Ford Mustang - 1
Honda Civic - 1
Mazda 3s - 1
MGB-GT - 1
Mini Cooper - 3
Subaru WRX - 3
Mitsubishi - 1

It looks like Minis vs. Subarus for the Team Competition.

To join this eclectic group, all you have to do is go to msreg.com/TTT13msr and preregister. Then I will send you a copy of the rules for this event, which you will need to study.

I just ran the course Saturday, and it is fun!

Come on out!

It's going to be a nice day for a rally, 72 degrees and only a slight chance of rain. Don't forget, rallies run rain or shine.

If you have been thinking about trying a rally, but aren't quite ready to compete, how about helping us out on Saturday? We need two people to man a checkpoint in a cemetery parking lot near Whitesboro. One of us would meet you there about 10:30, and show you what to do, which is take a score sheet from each rallyist that stops at the cemetery, and using a scoring key which we will give you, count how many questions they missed, and write the number on the score sheet. When the last car has passed, we will come collect the sheets from you. Then you are done, or you can follow us to the end in Denton, and watch the fun as we explain what they missed, and tell them who won. Email rally@texasscca.org to apply for the job.

Put October 26 on your calendar. That’s the day of the Great Pumpkin Rally, ending at the Festival of Pumpkins in Paris, Texas.
