One of the '55 Chevys used in the filming of what has become a 'cult classic movie' TWO LANE BLACKTOP will be up for auction at the January 2015 BJ Auction in Scottsdale. It is reported that 3 '55 Chevys were used, this one the 'camera car' used for interior shots, another was for exterior shots and is still in existence but no longer in it's 'Two Lane' appearance and another '55 was a stunt car and long gone. The 'camera car' which has been authenticated by the original builder Richard Ruth will available to whomever has the deepest pockets! It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

SO.. if the '55 used in American Graffiti is still existing and it's reportedly owned today by someone named Buddy in Texas, is this the '55 from Two Lane that is considered to be the one that does not have any appearance of being in Two Lane? And who is Buddy - if you're out there, let us know who you are!!

Here is a clip from Two Lane, and the 'camera car' that will be up for auction in January ...

.. and what ever happened to the GTO?

received a note from Walt Bailey who owns the iconic Two Lane Blacktop '55 - see below ....

Hi David,

Walt Bailey here. I was googling around to see what's been posted about the pending sale of the Two-Lane Blacktop '55 Chevy and found your post on your club's website. Thanks for helping get the word out. I'd sure love to see a tri-five fan get the car and continue to care for it.

If any of your members post any questions about the car, please feel free to refer them to my website at

http://twolaneblacktop.yuku.com

where I have posted restoration photos of the car and other Two-Lane Blacktop items of interest.

You posted a question about the GTO from the movie. There were two. I was able to track one down to Alaska around 1998 or 1999. According to the guy who restored the car, before it was sold to the owner in Alaska, evidence on the car matched up, but there was no studio paperwork with the car. The evidence was damage to the car that matched damage noted while it was in used as a studio mule and appeared in several TV shows. I tried to get some paperwork on the car, but neither Universal Studios nor California DMV had anything. Through the Pontiac Historical Society I was able to place the car at a Burbank Pontiac dealer two weeks before filming on Two-Lane Blacktop began, but that was still not good enough. Just as well, not long afterwards the Two-Lane Blacktop '55 Chevy surfaced in Canada, and the rest is now history.

Regards,

Walt Bailey
