So, I ran out of gas the other day. My wife loves it when I do that.
The gauge showed I still had 1/4 tank left.
It used to be dead on accurate so what changed?
I pulled the tank and peered inside through the filler hole.
I noticed that the float was resting on the uptake filter sock, holding the float up about 3/4".
Out comes the sending unit and I discovered that the sock slid down the uptake
tube. There is nothing holding the sock in place, it's free to travel up and down the tube.
So, I slid the sock up to the bend in the tube, twisted it in place there and put some RTV around sock plate. Problem solved.
If you have the new replacement gas tank sending unit from Danchuk, beware if your gas gauge suddenly stops short of empty and the engine quits.
