The car club is sad to learn that longtime and active club member Carl Mitcham passed away on August 15, 2024 after a long illness. Carl was nationally recognized for his knowledge and skill in restoring Tri Five Chevys, especially 1957 models. He built numerous '57 Chevys that won many awards. In 1979 Carl built a '57 Convertible was the People's Choice winner at the Classic Chevy Club's Reno International meet and was the cover car for the Classic Chevy World magazine in October of '79. Before that his '57 had won at the 1979 Dallas Regional meet with a First Place in 1957 Trailered Restored, Best Paint, Best Interior and People's Choice. In 1985 at the Dallas National Classic Chevy meet, Carl took 1st Place and a Gold Certificate with his Convertible. Carl was part of the 8 person committee that established the Judging Guidelines in the early 80's for the Classic Chevy Club that was the benchmark for many years for '55-'57 Chevy judging. Carl relocated from Amarillo to the DFW area many years ago and became a DACC member and with wife Charlsie was always very active in club events. He will be sorely missed by the Tri Five Chevy community and especially by our club.
