The Texas Muscle Car Challenge race today was my first ¼ mile track.
It was an hour drive to the track and thank goodness the drive was uneventful. Once I got there and paid my entry fee I found Tom Walker.
Finally, the weather changed from our Texas Summer. It was 58 degrees and sunny at the track when we got there. The temperature gradually got colder as the day wore on. It was sunny my first 2 runs and cloudy on the last one.
The first time trial I had a good 1/8 mile until the shifter stuck between 2nd and 3rd. Bad run. When I got back the pits I found one of the shifter arms was loose. I also found out that the alternator was loose. Fixed both and was good as new.
On the 2nd time trial I spun the tires just off the line. A car had earlier put oil down on the track; it couldn't be my driving, right? Therefore, I had to throttle the car in the first 60' for another bad run.
I had to guess on my dial in speed. I did some math and came up with 15.20.
The first elimination race I raced a Hemi Dodge truck. He was dialed in at 15.30. He leaves first by a tenth so I just plan to beat him. I cut a great light and a good 60' but still I’m running behind. I hit it hard and pass him in the last 100 feet by a half a car. But, I broke out by a 1 and 2 hundredth of as second. My opponent broke out also but I broke out worse and was eliminated.
The good news is I ran my best ET times ever but dialed in wrong and lost. That’s racing… _________________ Texas Classic Chevy Experience

Boxman and I linked up at the MotorPlex.
I was eliminated in the first round at the 22Oct05 TMCCC. My equipment was performing outstanding. 12.50's at 107 mph in an estimated gusting head wind of 15-25 mph. But, the driver (me) needs more instruction/practice in some areas. My race oponent cut an .03 light while I cut a .33 light. It's a no-brainer as to who won. He was 10 times faster on the lights than me. Futher it was a big bad dodge!
I'll be pulling my car out of service for some engine mods for a few months as of tonight, unless someone from the DACC wants to go race at Redline next Sunday AM. If that's the case I'll delay my work and show up to race and support the club. Any takers?? _________________ "A Classic Car is Not Aerodynamic" |

Tom.. don't beat yourself up so bad.. you cut a good light, the Dodge just got lucky and did a bad job of redlighting..
Alan.. you did ok, at least you ran your best number, just at the wrong time!!
last TMCCC race next Sunday at the 1/8 mile Redline Raceway in Caddo Mills!
Thanks guys for representing the club, sounded like a fun day, wished I could have been there! |
