Here is Sonny Poteet in 1959 with his '37 Chevy, one of MANY cars Sonny has owned over the years, and he says from looking at this photo he must be going to a funeral because that is the only reason he would be dressed that way!

Here is John Rush with his Dad in 1956. John says his Dad always liked to have new cars and this '56 was just that - brand new. He had a interesting job in that he drove a car hauler for Chevrolet hauling cars all over Texas delivering new cars to dealers. A crash almost killed him once when he went over a bridge with a shipment on new Chevys into a river. He bought a new car every year up until 1959 when he decided to keep his '59 Station Wagon, which he kept until his death in 1975.

Here - Michael Brown as a fresh high school grad in the summer of 1964 in the driveway of his parent's home in Hugo, Okla. This was a five year old 'used' car (not a classic yet) that he bought from an 'old man' (and Michael says looking back he is sure the 'old man' wasn't nearly as 'old' as Michael himself is now!). He paid $600 for this used car and had to borrow money from the local bank to make it happen that included getting Dad to co-sign. The '57 was all original - except for the ugliest set of mesh plaid seat covers off the rack from Western Auto that he couldn't wait to get off the car! With no real plans what to put in their place he got them off as quickly as he could and wouldn't you know under those ugly covers were the original color matching upholstery! He drove the car for about 3 years as a college student at Okla State and regrettably 'traded up'.

Michael made up for his mistake of 'trading up' his '57 by purchasing a few years ago this beautiful original '57 fuel inj Convertible!

This is Jim Leinart, in his second year of college and with his '55 Chevy that he used to commute from Leonard, TX to Commerce and East Texas State. He notes that he always tried to get early classes so that he could get back to Leonard (population 900) for lunch to catch up on the happenings at Poops Garage and get a burger basket at Grill 69 which was the hangout in town if you wanted to keep up with what was happening (no Facebook back then!). The Stockers Racing Team was supported by Poops Garage and in this picture Jim is at Green Valley Raceway with a busted rear end in his '55. Jim knew the rear end was a weak link on these cars and that is why he carried a spare, and it came in handy this day! But... on the way home the motor kicked a rod out so he was up a creek without a paddle for a while on his daily driven '55! Oh and this one ran a 283, 11 to 1 pistons, solid Duntov cam, double hump heads that had the humps ground off to look like 265 heads Laughing

This narly dude is Steve Pratt, summer of 1985 at his Father-In-Laws house (he is on the left barely in the photo) where Steve 'discovered' this old green Chevy sitting in his driveway. It had been sitting for years and the goal at the time the photo was taken by Steve's wife MaryAnne was to get it started. Not only did they get is started but several weeks later they joined DACC and even later this car was fully restored with a frame off effort. Today 30 years later this Bel Air has lived another life and is just like new. You can find Steve and MaryAnne driving this beautiful Chevy most any sunny day!

Check out this shot taken in 1980 of Zora Arkus Duntov! As most know, Zora is the father of the Corvette, having taken Harley Earl's idea and improved upon it and make a brand that began in 1953 that remains a premier sports car over 60 years later. This Belgian born American engineer joined General Motors after seeing the '53 Motorama Corvette display. He passed away in 1996 and his ashes are entombed at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. Well enough on Zora, the real question is who is that young skinny guy next to him? Believe it or not it's Bill Preston. Zora and Bill are having lunch at Bill's a la Carte Express cafeteria during the 1980 Corvette Expo in Ok City! Now that's a Blast From The Past!
