The Tulsa Raceway Park dragstrip recently sold. This is the original Southwest Raceway constructed in 1965. The owner stated he could not make enough money to justify continued ownership. What the new owner(s) are going to do with the property remains to be seen.
All the same a Tulsa web based car group with a catchy name rented the track 23 October for their membership to possibly have their "Last Race", as they have raced there for the last 4 years.
I managed get invited to this event and took my 56 sedan delivery. The interesting thing for me is this is the first dragstrip my sedan delivery ever went down in 1971; 14.30 seconds and 94mph. All the same, should the track close, I wanted to make a last pass in the same car. It does not seem like 40 years since that first pass. I'm sure glad I went along with a couple hundred other fans of the place. For several links to pictures and video go to:

You will need to peruse for the links to pics and videos as new ones have been added by attendees.

Added to the closings list is a news report Kansas City Intl. Raceway sold. It will become a park owned by the city.
What am I missing here...A tax strapped municipality buys private property that generates tax revenue and converts it to a non tax revenue park. Makes me wonder if the city out bid private sector bidders wanting to buy it.
