this week we are back to 1985 at the Classic Chevy Club's South Central National Convention for '55-'57 Chevys that DACC hosted, cars from all over the country flocked to North Texas that July 4th weekend and we had a great event - the Show N Shine was a big part of the weekend and here from the Classic Chevy World magazine are photos of many of the winners (you may recognize some!)

What would be even more cooler than getting to see the throw back pictures of great classic American iron would be if at least one person in the pictures would write in the Chat Room about where the car pictured is now. Triple cool would be a now photo!!!!! Laughing

For Throwback Thursday this week, let's continue to reflect back to 1985 and the Classic Chevy Club Convention that DACC hosted, this huge event was held over several days and had cars from all over the country attending, it was an event to remember! And as was the custom, each event had a commemorative dash plaque and below is the dash plaque from this event.

We continue to reflect back for this week's Throwback Thursday to the '85 Classic Chevy Club Convention in Dallas, the award for Long Distance could have been won by a number of 'long hauling' Tri Five Chevys that drove to Big D for the event, but the overall winner was Bill Hollywood from Ketchican, Alaska who drove this '55 all the way to and from 'The Last Frontier State' to 'The Lone Star State' for the big event!

This week for Throwback Thursday we stay with the ’85 Convention, and here is Curtis Vittetoe from Oak Grove, Missouri who brought this beautiful ’55 to Dallas and got it all shined up for the Show N Shine. His efforts were rewarded as he took Best Modified Interior, Best Modified Engine, won a Gold award and took 1st Place in Senior ’55 Custom Class AND the won the prestigious People’s Choice Award. Quite an accomplishment for a show with as many nice ’55-’57 Chevys as there were at this event.

This week for Throwback Thursday we are in Dallas at the '79 Classic Chevy Club's South Central Regional Convention that was hosted by the DACC. Unique games were part of this event for the participants and the one pictured is the 'Polish Ski Race'. Basically you take two boards, nail 3 pairs of shoes to them and get three willing 'skiers' and race another like team. There were two classes, one for men and one for women. In both classes the group from the Springfield Classic Chevy Club had the right combo and won both trophies! Guess they spent some time training back in Missouri during the off season.

Throwback Thursday will continue this week with the 1979 Classic Chevy Convention that DACC hosted, this event was a milestone for the club as we were just two years old at the time, and the national '55-'57 Chevy spotlight was on us. Our first ever event to host, the convention went off without issue and we had folks and Tri Five Chevys from all over the region in town. This would establish the club as 'the real thing' and set the pace for the future of DACC. We had a number of 'games' for the participants like the previously shown Polish Ski Race, and here is another - The Camshaft Balance Contest. Take a chuck of iron called a camshaft, balance it in the palm of your hand and at the signal take off against a competitor through a obstacle course. Spectators had to stay well away from the course as those camshafts would go flying sometimes!

This week we will stay with the special 50th Anniversary of the ’55 Chevy display that DACC had at the 2005 Dallas Autorama, and even before the show kicked off the display was on the local television news with a special feature – check it out by clicking on the link below -

This week's Throwback Thursday features the 24th Annual Lone Star Classic Chevy Convention that DACC hosted in 2006, and part of the event was a Friday Night Drags event, a first for the Lone Star convention. Our own Alan Strong bested the others in the 'Eliminator 2' class, taking out fellow DACC member Ken Burton in the final round! It was a VERY close race for the final, as Alan dialed a 9.93 and ran a 9.95 ET with a .632 reaction time. Ken was right there as he dialed a 9.35 and ran 9.36 (nearly PERFECT!) but his .797 reaction time was slower than Alan's and with that gave Alan the win and he became the champion at Lone Star's first drag racing event! Below is a shot from that final round.

This week’s Throwback Thursday we don’t have a ’55-’57 Chevy or DACC member featured, but instead this neat 2 page photo spread on the 5th Annual Dallas Autorama from Hot Rod Magazine in 1965. The Autorama and DACC have a long history, with our club first displaying in 1977 and doing such every year since! This weekend is the 55th Annual Dallas Autorama and DACC’s 38th straight year in a row to display at the show!

It's 1988 on Throwback Thursday this week, and we feature a published recap of the 'Show N Drags' that DACC hosted that year where Tri Five Chevys were judged in the traditional 1000 pt CCI program AND we had drags for only the Tri Five Chevys on the strip at the Texas Motorplex.

Throwback this week goes back to 2006 and the DACC's 50th Anniversary of the '56 Chevy display at the Autorama that got some TV time thanks to Joe Gaikoski's story on his '56, check out the video link below ..

Throwback Thursday this week recognizes the 10th Anniversary of the Reliable Chevrolet sponsorship of the DACC! This year will be the 10th straight year for Reliable Chevrolet in Richardson to back our club and the beginning of this partnership was marked by this photo taken in 2005. Ironically it was Late Chevrolet that occupied the same dealership facility in Richardson that supported the club back in the very early days of DACC.
