Just put new chrome on engine and took on test drive today and it stopped after a short time running. I let it run about 20 min, did not get hot turned off the car and would not shut off. Killed the engine by putting it in gear. but the dash lights (gen light & heat light ) stayed on. Any ideas, I did put on a new chrome alternator.

Try unplugging the small plug on the alternator and see if it shuts off. If so, you probably need a diode in the brown wire to the #1 terminal of that plug. It backfeeds voltage to the ignition, through the brown wire. |
