Newby here needs to ask a question. I'll make it short.
I have a high quality 1957 BelAir convertible driver with PB and PS. I would like to add Vintage Air. As you know the PS pump is on the back of the generator. I was told the generator can't handle the load and will need to add an alternator and electric PS. Is it a forgone conclusion that I have to get rid of the generator/PS pump if I add AC and an electric fan on the back of the radiator or is there some way around it. I would like to have AC, but I hate to loose some originality. Thanks in advance for your replies.

No, you don't have to use an alternator to add A/C. The aftermarket A/C systems don't draw as much current as the original A/C units and they worked with a generator. Vintage air says it won't work, but it will.
The electric cooling fan is another matter. An electric cooling fan draws too much current for a generator. So, you will need to improve the cooling of the mechanical fan, with a larger fan and shroud.

That said, they now have a 80 amp alternator that looks like a generator with a power steering pump output shaft. Check with club member Steve at https://authenticautomotive.net/ ...You could use an electric cooling fan with the look-a-like alternator.
