On Dec. 31st a tri-5 owner was backing out of his driveway when the ball broke off the pitman arm. He had no sreering at all. Imagine this happening at highway speed. The arm was a reproduction pitman arm made by CPP in 2015. This link shows pictures of the pitman arms that could be suspect. If you have a recently installed pitman arm from CPP, please review this link to see if yours is like the one that failed. There are pictures in the link showing what they look like. The link is from triifive.com forum.... http://www.trifive.com/forums/showthread.php?t=168354....

wow ... that is a serious issue.

Classic Performance Parts (CPP) should be on top of this immediately, and if not then we should all buy elsewhere. There is no room for this in this hobby.

Just to clarify: this is the reproduction manual steering pitman arm with the ball stud, not the reproduction pitman arm for OEM power steering which has no ball stud. This pitman arm can be installed on a stock manual gear or on an aftermarket power steering gear.

Reply from CCP today .. 6 months later .. Embarassed

Beginning late yesterday and moving forward CPP has implemented a voluntarily safety recall of steering pitman arm part #5557PA-M. The pitman arm has been identified to have some manufacturing inconsistencies. As we’ve continued to monitor and evaluate the pitman arm’s performance, we’ve come to the conclusion that it is necessary to recall a certain number of pitman arms isolated to one manufacturer during a specific period of time. Some of you may have already received a recall notice, others may be receiving one soon. We’re asking that this matter be taken seriously! Please contact us as quickly as possible to help us determine whether or not your vehicle is affected by this recall. Attached is a copy of the recall notice with contact information for reference.

It’s our goal to recover as many of the suspect pitman arms as humanly possible and once recovered permanently get them out of circulation. Replacement Pitman Arms are currently available to help this process move forward quickly and minimize the inconvenience to anyone who may be affected.

This is not a shining moment for CPP and we sincerely wish we were not putting any of our customers in this position. We are trying hard to navigate this recall process as quickly and efficiently as possible. We are also reviewing our internal engineering, inspection and destructive testing processes and making the necessary changes to ensure something like this can never happen again.

Please help us spread the word and feel free to contact us with any question and/or concerns at 1-800-522-5004 and ask for Aaron S. at ext 125 or Van at ext 112. You can also reach us via email at info@classicperform.com.
