I plan on going.

I've never gone to the drags to run one of my cars in the past because I didn't want to go by myself. With the club member there this Friday I guess I don't have that excuse any more.

I always guessed my 57 would run high 8's in the 1/8 mile. But after the dyno challenge I going to back up the bus and predict a best of 9.5.

I wonder what ET Tom runs?

I posted this photo of a car I saw at the Super Chevy Show last month only because I like photos in my posts

The following Sunday meaning June 19th (Father's Day) or the 26th?

I had great fun at the test and tune.

I almost got the time I was shooting for. My best ET was 10.08 at 72.52 MPH.

Traction was a problem for me. I had to come out of the hole a 1500 RPM to keep the tire from spinning. My first pass I spun the tire at least 100 feet after starting at 3500 RPMs. I thought the track was slick. I can't burn the tire that long at on the street. Believe me I have tried. On my last pass when I shifted into 2nd I had to throttle the car to keep traction.

My times and average-1/8 mile track
Date Run time RT 60 ft 330 ft ET MPH
6.17.05 9:05 PM 0.8426 2.9776 7.6431 11.111 71.11
6.17.05 11:23 PM 1.27 2.842 7.1133 10.4902 73.08 Best MPH
6.17.05 11:33 PM 1.0883 2.894 7.2693 10.7188 71.8
6.17.05 11:42 PM 0.8613 2.829 7.2582 10.7777 70.58
6.17.05 12:07AM 1.1452 2.5611 6.7417 10.1692 72.34
6.17.05 12:10 AM 0.7566 2.448 6.6579 10.081 72.52 Best ET
6.17.05 12.17 AM 0.7524 2.6293 7.315 10.9164 69.52 Best RT

AVG 0.959486 2.740143 7.142643 10.60919 71.56

I don't know why this thing does not see spaces Confused

My best et of 10.08 would be 15.70 in the quarter.

Horsepower Results - 1/4 Mile Method
My 57 chevy weighs about 4000 pounds and can it completed a 1/4 mile in about 15.70 seconds. That means that I've got about 204.29 HP at the wheels, and about 265.58 HP at the flywheel. Dyno was 222 hp.

For the math I used this web site.

nice info Alan.. hopefully we will get some numbers from the others that ran...

here are a few pictures, Charlie Walker from Denton with his very nice yellow '57, Tom Walker (no relation) from Irving with his '57 piloted by nephew Blake, who did a great job driving and Alan Strong from The Colony all made passes, first timer Alan did make a number of runs and got some consistency and did great also...

On Friday night 17Jun05 we went out to refresh our bracket skills and introduce my 20 year old Newphew to driving a heavy car with bracket racing consistancy. Our best time in the 1/8th mile 8.02 at 85.86 mph. Worse time 8.42 at 80.3 mph. This discounts the missed shifts and other warm-up runs. Most 60 ft times were 1.85 seconds. My '57 car is really sensitive to rear tire traction. Really hot rear tires give the best times. As the clock ticked toward the cool 00:00 AM air the car went faster.

On the upcoming MCCC Race Sunday @ I35 Denton things will be exactly opposite. Likely the cars will slow down due to the warming temps as the day progresses, so be advised for the hearty that participate. We (Team TomWalker) are planning to participate.

We will attempt to make it back out Friday night 24 June to continue our testing and prepare for Sunday AM @I-35Denton

We burned less than 3 gallons of fuel for the 6 full power runs we made.

Let's get our club some points in the Muscle Car Club Challenge. The more members that attend and participate the better our point count will accrue.
"Get on it!"

For those interested TCI, the performance transmission company, has a calculator web page. They even give the formulas used in the various frames.

http://www.tciauto.com/tech_info/calculators.htm

I loaded the formulas of interest onto an Xcell spreadsheet and tweaked the constants by trial and error until my car's actual 1/4 mile speed would calculate the actual 1/8th mile speed and visa versa.

For these calculators to work best the car needs to be geared for the top of the car's powerband in high gear. The point being it won't give accurate estimates if you crossing the finish line a say 4500 rpm rather than the peak power at say 5500 rpm.

All of this drag race stuff is pretty focused so the cruising crowd should take the performance numbers with a grain of salt and leave the race thrashing to to those ate up with it. I speak from experience.

I never got out of third gear. I don't know what my RPM's were at the traps. I guess I was too excited. I was going 72 mph, with a 3.23 dif ratio, 24.5" tires and a 1.23 3rd gear ratio. Using http://www.race-cars.net/calculators/mph_calculator.html I calculate around 3900 to 4000 RPM's at the end of the 1/8.

I'll play with Tom's calculator and make another post.
