Sadly we have learned that back in June Ellen Wallace passed at age 92. Ellen was the wife of RD Wallace, both very active in the early days of DACC. In spite of Ellen's Germany heritage which gave her a heavy distinctive German accent, she was likely the most successful recruiter of the club ever! If she spotted a '55-'57 Chevy that was not in the club, she would not relent until that car owner handed over the membership dues and became a member. There are likely members of the club today that were recruited by Ellen! Her husband RD was regarded as one of the top restorers of '57 Chevys in the country. Texas was blessed in the early days of the Classic Chevy Club to be home to likely 3 of the best restorers in the country of '57 Chevys - RD Wallace, Ray Trevathan and Carl Mitcham. Here is a 'winners photo' from the 1985 National Classic Chevy Convention in Dallas where RD and Ellen won 1st Place in the highly competitive '57 Contemporary Class and a Silver Award with their 'Black Gold' 1957 Bel Air Chevy. May she rest in peace. Her obituary can be found here -
