Dean Schmidt was a tremendous asset to the club beginning in 2004 when the club nearly folded. He contributed much of his time to see the club rebound and grow, serving as Club Treasurer from 2004 to 2011, hosting several Christmas Parties, he was a regular at the club's Wheelchair Ramp Builds each December and he developed and built our club stanchions we use each year for the club display at the Autorama. In 2007 Dean 'loaned' his '57 Bel Air to Dallas Morning News Automotive Writer Terry Box who did a story about the 50th Anniversary of the '57 Chevy, check it out here - https://youtu.be/TSR8qDlGJE4. Most of all he was a great friend to many in the club and although he and Audrey moved to the hill country and were no longer active on a regular basis with the club, the invitation was open to stop by their beautiful home in Spicewood (which we did as a group one year on our way to a Lone Star Convention in San Antonio!). Dean will be sorely missed by his family, friends and members of this car club.

Journal Entry by Audrey Schmidt

Dean Roger Schmidt took the hand of Jesus and received his eternal reward on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at age 71.

Dean's life was a rare treasure. Always the life of the party, he unapologetically spread happiness and laughter at every opportunity, but his deepest joy was found in times surrounded by family and friends, teaching his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews anything and everything, and of course making jokes and playing pranks.

Dean is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Audrey, sons Jason and Justin, daughter Vanessa Hodge and her husband Donivan, grandchildren Dominic, Bryce, Hayley and Hannah, and daughter in law Catherine. Brothers Dennis and his wife Diane, Greg and his wife Kathy, Ron and his wife Cheryl, Jerry and his wife Jeannette, sisters Carol and Cindy and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Emogene Schmidt and most recently his dearest cousin Steve Schmidt and his globetrotting co-conspirator David Toney.

As Dean and Audrey chose to celebrate his life every day with those who loved him, we hope you will have your own celebrations with your friends and loved ones in place of a formal service for Dean. If you fell like contributing your stories with us, we would be honored to add them to our "book of Dean" currently in production. Many friends have also asked about memorials, so in keeping with Dean's desire to play as hard as he worked, we'd like to suggest supporting the completion of our project to build a playground for the children's home at Kid's International where orphaned children will find a place of joy, fun and creativity fitting with Dean's legacy.
