I am looking at a 56.. price is right but I want to convert to v8 small block and its in great shape. Its got a 2 speed auto in it.

questions:
will a small block fit right in... no mount location changes???
how about tranny, will it bolt up?? same bell housing and flywheel???
how about tranny mount...

any help I can get will be greatly appreciated...

I live in north myrtle beach SC

many thanks..... joe

Any small block will bolt in, as long as it has the bolt holes for the front engine mounts. http://www.classicchevy.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=18%2D08&dept%5Fid=2208 I think some later engines have the boss molded on the front of the engine but the holes are not drilled. The transmission mounts are the same. You will need a V-8 bellhouseing/adapter and I'm not sure if the flex plate/flywheel is the same. You will probably need a shroud around the fan for proper cooling.
