The second Fall TMCCC drag race was held at North Star Dragway near Denton. The DACC had 5 cars collecting points for the club. Notable members were Dennis Gormley and Robert Hernandez and former member Kenneth Burton with 2 additional cars recruited by Dennis. Actually it was almost a party of sorts as three of the cars had shown up new to their owners with minimal test/tune time. Two of these were Robert Hernandez with his newly acquired 468 BBC powered purpose built red 55 Chevy and Don Fleming with his team from Sherman with their 302 SBC powered 55 Chevy. The colors of the 55? Only a picture would answer that question. But this car had the 4 speed and squatted every flawless power shift on the eighth mile driven by Erin Flemming. Moving into the eliminations Gormley drew a tough draw competitor and lost running a 6.24 at 113..4 mph. Hernandez held in for 2 rounds with his new 55 cranking out a 6.92 at 99 mph before losing. The ever consistant Burton held in for 2 rounds also before breaking out by .004 second. Fleming banged the gears on his 55 to also break out by .001 second in his first round of eliminations running a 7.79 at 86 mph. Our other DACC recruited associate with his fuel injected BBC went out second round too with yet another break out running 6.82 at 89.2 mph while lifting off the throttle when his coolant system started spraying on the windshield at 89 mph. Our 2 first round losing competitors went into the "Race of Champions" venue. Those being Gormley and Fleming. Fleming experienced carburetor problems and went down first round. Gormley went 5 hard rounds of competition only to lose in the final. Adding insult to injury he broke out by .1 second running a 6.27 at 112.6 mph on a 6.37 dial while his competitor ran his exact dial 8.000 seconds. At the end everyone was pretty excited about their personal performance for the day and are looking forward to the next outing. Not one track breakage requiring clean up occurred for the 150 plus cars in attendance at the event. Lastly, Chris Graves was providing mounted action pictures of the cars. I saw a lot of smiling car owners showing off Chris' work of their cars just in our pit alone. _________________ "A Classic Car is Not Aerodynamic" |

We all had a great time and we just need more cars to run. Next race maybe it will be a little cooler and a few more will come out and play with us.
