DACC GENERAL MEETING MINUTES 11/14/09

The meeting was held at Cozymel’s Restaurant in Grapevine, Texas. We had member cars on display and 40 plus members in attendance.

David Graves (President) called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. David gave a brief introduction and then asked that each of the board members introduce themselves. Board members present were David Graves, Greg Hedum, Larry Epperson, Dean Schmidt, George Johnson, Alan Strong, and Dan Bunch. On the agenda was the election for the expiring terms in December of President, David Graves; Secretary, Larry Epperson and Board Member, Alan Strong.

Larry Epperson conducted the election and all were re-elected to their position for another 2 years.

David opened with OLD BUSINESS and reviewed the past years activities and events:
January – Frosty’s Drive-Inn – Denton, Texas
February – Dallas Autorama- 8 Cars
March – Fort Worth Rod & Custom Show
- Reliable Chevrolet Spring Classic Show & ‘Cacklefest’
April – Cruise to The Shed in Edom, Texas
May – Lone Star Convention in Houston, Texas
June – Tech meeting @ Wilson Auto Repair & Lunch
July – 4th of July Parade
August- Hot August Nights- North Richland Hills
September- Reliable Chevrolet Fall Show
October – State Fair of Texas Display – ‘Rain-out
- Drive In Movie Cruise to Granbury
- Fall Foliage Tour to Poteau, Oklahoma
November – General Meeting
December 12 – Wheelchair Ramp Building and Christmas Party at Larry & Jan Rollow’s home.

This year a number of members took part in the Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge drag races and our club finished in the top 10. DACC’s best race turnout was the Denton Fall race with 7 cars, best DACC driver of the year was James Carson with 19 points. This is a fun activity and you don’t have to be a hard core racer to participate. If not racing, join in supporting the racers.

Club sponsors Reliable Chevrolet & Wilson Auto Repair were acknowledged and we were encouraged to patronize them as well with our purchases and or repairs of our vehicles.

New sponsor this year is Heritage Insurance located in Tyler, Texas. Larry & Melody Rogers are also proud owners of a 1957 Chevy. Check them out when you need insurance or policy renewals.

We are up in membership and currently have 161 members. This is an increase from 143 members reported in last year's minutes. The highest membership DACC has had is over 175 in the early 90’s. We need to continue promoting our club and encouraging fellow tri-five enthusiasts to join and participate in the activities.

David reported that the DACC website gets between 1500-2000 hits each week and encourage all to sign up and use the chatboard located on the site.

Dean Schmidt, Treasurer, gave the club’s financial status. Dean’s report was very positive and we were reminded that with our club hosting the 2011 Lone Star Convention we will need funds. Most of the income had come from membership dues with additional assistance from sales of merchandise and, of course, our valued sponsors.

Larry Epperson was asked to give a report on his and wife, Dianne’s trip to the SEMA SHOW in LasVegas.

Geoff Clark gave a report on his trip to Detroit Michigan and the famous WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE which lasted a week with daily ‘Hot Rod, Classic and Antique cruises on a 9 mile blocked drive.

NEW BUSINESS was discussed:

Alan Strong discussed his new project of setting up the Club’s new ‘Facebook’ for our club which will give our club additional exposure. Facebook also provides additional space to write about our activities and discuss with others, projects with their tri-fives. If you have any problems with setting up your Facebook account, please contact Alan and become a participant in this new venture.

Vickie Penney has been given the task of involving the wives in the car activities and various other projects. She has some ideas for activities which she will be presenting shortly.

2010 Club Activities on Schedule:
February – Dallas Autorama – David has asked for anyone that wants to have their car in this display to contact him.
March – Fort Worth Rod & Custom Show – Bill Preston is heading the display and show again this year and wants to do something different, an ALL CONVERTIBLE CAR DISPLAY. Bill felt confident that we would have enough convertibles in our club to fill the display.
May – Lone Star Convention in San Antonio. Make reservations early as there are not many rooms available.
October –Fall Foliage Tour in Branson, Missouri. Bill & Diane Preston are organizing this trip. Additional information will be in our website calendar.

David asked the members if they had any activity they would like the club to take part in, please contact him. The complete 2010 schedule has not been set.

David has checked out at least 3 host hotels for our 2011 Lone Star Convention and will be making a final decision, with the assistance of the board, early in 2010. We are expecting 250 tri-fives. With a little luck and a lot of promotion, we might have a record 300.

A volunteer was requested to handle the club’s display stanchions. The displays are 10 feet long, and we need help getting them to and setting them up at the Dallas and Ft Worth indoor shows. Bob Smolik volunteered his delivery truck.

David mentioned that this month’s SEMA newsletter featured DACC and is also on their website at SEMASAN.org. Extra copies of the SEMA newsletter were available at the meeting. David encourage all to sign up for free to SEMA.

Cozymel's Restaurant offered four $25 gift certificates. Winners were Alan Strong, Greg Hedum, Dean Schmidt and Thomas Fowlkes.

GUEST SPEAKER-
Once again we had Josh Ottmann of Ottmann Detailing, and once again he challenged us to improve our method of caring for our prized cars. Josh has several years of detailing experience and does a fantastic job of taking a good paint job to a level of real beauty. Bill Preston had Josh work on one of his cars and at a recent car show was given the ultimate compliment by a young admirer (of the car) that “It looks like a mirror.” If you want to take that next step, Josh can be reached at, OTTMANNDETAILING.COM. Josh opened the floor to questions and answers.

Meeting adjourned 8:20PM
