|
|
I have LARGE aluminum radiator in my 55 chevy. It seems to develop pinhole leaks at each corner of the thing. The motor is well gounded, I use only the best antifreze, distilled water, but the problem persists. It is firmly mounte to the radiator hoop, does not shake or wiggle.
I have been told that aluminum radiators should 'float' in rubber mounts.
Anybody else have similar problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

So far so good no leaks in mine. After reading a post, I believe David posted, Truck490 (Larry) bought a couple of sacrificial anodes that we put in our radiators. I don't know if that is your problem but that is what we did. _________________ Texas Classic Chevy Experience

I have had a Be Cool aluminum radiator in my '57 for several years with no problems. I would like more info on those anodes though. |

Don't know if you allow product endorsements/criticisms but don't buy a Superior Radiator, Mt Clemens, Michigan. They are made with cores from China, very thin wall tubes, they swell and break under pressure. |

I asked a custom reputable radiator builder about the use of an anode for protecting the aluminum radiator. He said that it's overkill IF you change your coolant every two years with good anti freeze and use distilled water. |

Here's a site that sells zinc anodes at baby bird (cheep) prices.
http://www.boatzincs.com/engine_zinc-only.html
Buy one, toss it in the bottom (down flow) or side (cross flow) or thread into the drain plug slot.
The ultimate in aluminum accessory protection. |
