I finally have my Classic Air unit installed and debugged. All that is left is to put a drive belt on, draw a vacuum and charge the system.

Any words of wisdom or coaching how to complete this last process.

take it to a shop that has the equip to do that .. !

THEN .. enjoy a whole new driving experience with the '57!!

Taking it to someone would be the smart way however, I want to do say I did it myself even in the long it costs me more.

Tonight, I got the fan belt on. Tomorrow, I plan to draw a vacuum, check for leaks and shoot in some R134.

I would go ahead and draw a vacumn and leave it overnight to see if the vacumn holds. The vacumn is cheaper than 134. Smile

I waited a half hour the first time and lost the vacuum. I tightened up all the fittings and started over. This time, I had no loss of vacuum after an hour and a half.

It blows at 45 degrees. Not great but OK.

If I remember correctly the gauges read 210 on the blue side and 40 on the red.

45 is cold. 210 and 40 is a little low but is acceptable. Did it hold 1.85-2lb? Sounds like you did a nice job.

The manual called for 24 ounces. She cools great except now I have to work on closing the air leaks from around the drivers door.

Are you getting air leaks through the fresh air vents? If the seals on the flapper valves haven't been replaced they will usuall let a lot of hot air in.
Have you thought about putting something solid under the grill to block them off completely. http://www.trifive.com/garage/57%20Chevy%20Assembly%20Manual/1-13.gif There's not much fresh air around here anyway. Sad

My car does not have direction grates on the vents down by the kick pannel. For now I have stuffed a towel in the vent to shut it off. Still, the vents could still be leaking air. I hope to look into the problem tomorrow after I try to fix my main problem which is no tail or brake lights. I'm sure Bill and David will have some stories to tell about my tail light problems and my drive home from Hot Texas Nights. Rolling Eyes

my only comment is that if you ever need a garage on wheels, call Alan and have him bring his '57, he has a complete shop in his trunk ..

There is a 9 amp fuse on the fuse panel that supplies power to both the brake and tail lights.

You were correct Don it was the fuse. I guess I will need to carry some .22 rounds in case the fuse blows again. Just kidding.
