Hi,
This is my first posting on the forum. A friend of mine (Marvin Cowden) ask me to post my progress as I rebuild my 55 2 Dr Ht. I live here in the DFW area.I am 53 years old/young. I wanted to build a car and a tri-five was the way I wanted to go. I'm not new doing body work and painting cars but I am new at restoring a old car,but how hard can it be?
Anyway I will start posting and showing my progress with pictures soon.
Thanks!

Ok, I found the old gal in the mud at Balch Springs. It took all day to drag it out.
I must say it has more than it's share of rust.

We got it on the trailer and the adventure begins!
PS That's not me on the trailer ,that's my Uncle. I'm way prettier than that.

I though I would start on the back sheetmetal repair around the tail lights and trunk tail pan area. It was soooo bad...................
After I woke up from the coma I started cutting.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Where are you buying your sheet metal? _________________ Texas Classic Chevy Experience

Being on a budget,(sort of) I try to get the best priced stuff.
So I'm getting a mix of us stamped and overseas.
Some of the parts fit well and some .
I don't worry about it I'm just working it in. _________________ David Hudson

I was really wanting to attack the left quarter panel.
The left side of the car (door and quarter), on top of age
and rust had been damaged. I started by hanging the new door
to help in alignment of the the rear door pillar. It was pushed in about .750". I was pleased to see the door fit very well.
I cut the quarter skin away from the pillar to relieve the tension.
I was able to pull with some force the pillar and line it with the door.

With the quarter skin off now I can clean and repair.
The wheelwell close-out was smashed in.
I removed the damage metal and off to the bead blaster.
Now you would think that a simple curved sheetmetal part to repair the
wheelwell would be not so bad putting it on but dang it was kinda ruff.
Well, I got it submit to my will and go on.

With the new part in and the area blasted clean there were areas
of rust that required some small patches. Time to epoxy the area
and prep it for the new skin!

Hello David. You are a much more braver soul than I. I've taken my 55 to a young man out in Trenton, Tx. It looks like you've already acquired all of the sheetmetal for your project. What I found out was that regardless of who I was going to buy the quarter panels from, the part was going to be shipped from the same location in Lewisville, Tx. (Golden Star Auto Parts). So I purchased the parts from the dealer and picked the parts up at Golden, saving the freight charges. It looks like you are doing excellent work, Good Luck _________________ "Getting older is inevitable......acting your age is a choice....I choose not to! |

Thanks, I do have most all of the the sheetmetal ready to go.It is a pile of work. In a few days I'll be posting more picks.I was planning to hit it hard during the my Christmas time off but ended up resting most the time.Funny, at a earlier age I would have pushed on through. _________________ David Hudson
