Today I went over to a friend's house that has a lift and we changed all 4 shocks on the 57, then changed out the leaf springs (4 leaf) for 5 leaf, then installed front sway bar, then started installation of rear sway bar. Rear is about 75% complete couldn't put end mounting to the frame because the exhaust is in the way.
In one of my magazines I receive I saw the exhaust of a 57 comimg out of the bumper where the backup lights go. Does anybody know if there is a kit for this? Since I am going to redo the exhaust I thought why not bring it out there........... Looks like the leaf springs raised the rear about three inches and I sure hope they settle down and drop about two inches.

Larry, did you tighten the spring and shackle bolts after the full weight of the car was on the wheels? If you tightened them with the suspension hanging down, it can keep the car from settleing to it's normal height.
The problem with the exhaust coming out the bumper, it discolors and get's the bumper dirty if you drive it much. Any muffler shop should be able to bend the pipes to exit there.

Thanks Don, I waited till this morning to go back & recheck the spring shackel U bolt nuts, car sitting on it's weight they are tight. I went from a four leaf spring to a five leaf, wonder how much this may raise the rear and considering I now have new springs vs fifty year old springs?

When did the Corvette have the exhaust out the bumper and was there anything between the exhaust & bumper to protect the bumper from exhaust pipe heat?

Larry, I can tell you from experience that the problem with exhaust pipes running through the bumper is not from heat or soot. Its from mud packing around the tail pipe, thrown up from the rear tires. This holds the moisture against the bumper and will rust it out from the inside. I had a 54 Caddy with the famous bumper ends and exhaust exits there and you really have to keep the insides of the bumper washed out to avoid the rust-thru. They do look cool, though.

Well, I know how to listen to experience. Exhaust out the bumper is canceled. The exhaust will go out the rear.
