Is there anyone planning to join the Hot Rod Power Tour 2012. I've never been a part of one but given it will spend two nights in Oklahoma and end in Arlington it is too close to not check it out. This years tour includes stops at the following locations:
June 2: Detroit MI
June 3: Muskegon, MI
June 4: Champaign, IL
June 5: Madison, IL
June 6: Miami, OK
June 7: Stillwater, OK
June 8: Arlington, TX
I might drive to Stillwater and head south with the group. Let me know if you're interested - perhaps we could caravan.

Geoff, My wife and I plus some friends in a off-brand car are going to St. Louis to meet the tour there, follow it home. Several others from the club plan to meet the tour in Miami. By the way, the tour's end is in Grand Prairie at Quick Trip Park, not Arlington. I don't know why they continue to advertise Arlington but, despite my best efforts, they do.

I didn't get to attend any of the Tour events, but heard about some great times from those that did, Stu Jacobs and his '46 Ford pickup gave him fits in Detroit but got them ironed out for a good run home, and looks like from the photo Marv Cowden enjoyed the trip as he proudly applies his 'Power Tour' sticker to his back window .. let us hear about any other stories!

Worked all week getting car & A/C working.
We left Thursday 5/31 heading for Detroit. We had leaf spring problems and changed in Galleria parking lot but continued on to first stop, Springfield Mo. next morning it's 40degrees(no A/C) then the Indy and by noon at the GM Proving Grounds (Detroit Stop). We drove their proving track. Then to Muskegon where 1000's of people showed up to see cars. Then to Champaign, Il. then Madison,Il we stay in St. Louis. Next stop Miami Oklahoma, next to Stillwater Ok and finally Arlington where the overheating started. Saturday morning ALL the "LONG HAULERS' met at Quick Trip park baseball field where the 2000 posed for a picture in center field. Look real close for US!
Lots more to to tell but that will be later,
Round Trip home to Detroit to home= 3332 miles in 9 days!!
GOOD Weather all the way |

I joined the tour in Miami, Ok and was the 4,427th vehicle to register and a lot more registered after I did. My car peformed great. The only bad luck we had was at the slots in the Buffalo Run Casino. This is a picture at the Stillwater stop.

We left Monday morning on June 4th, met another couple with a 1970 Challenger in Sherman. Had breakfast there then proceeded on to Springfield, MO (450 miles). Next day (6/05) drove in to St. Louis (200 mi.), checked in to the hotel and drove over to the race track to register and gawk at the cars. The traffic was so bad to get in, we said to heck with it, registered and went back to the hotel to check out the casino, eat, and crash.
Next day (6/6) we followed the tour through the country side of MO., simply beautiful, Joplin,MO. to Miami, OK. and the Bull Run Casino. Traffic wasn't quite as bad so we parked and gawked. Met up with club members Bill and Diann Preston. There were lots of great rods but also lots of new cars, like Corvettes, Camaros, and Mustangs. I've been told that some people fly to Detroit, rent a car, and drive the tour. Sad but commercialisim has ruined this event, too, in MY opinion.
Next day (6/7) followed the tour to Stillwater, OK. The venue was the campus at OSU. We stayed at the old Atherton Hotel, which is on the campus of OSU and is used as a teaching facility for students majoring in hospitality. This was, by far, the best hotel of the tour. Beautiful room, fantastic gardens to walk through, and a great breakfast buffet included.
Last day (6/0 , drove staight down I35 to home to recoup.
My car performed flawlesly, only had three close calls. One, a truck tire blew out about a car length in front of us, tire chunks just barely missed us. Then a car that was packed with mud in the fender wells droped some of it and I managed to swerve and miss that. Lastely, a truck I had just passed almost hit a bridge abutment (sic?) and swerved over into my lane, almost clipped my rear, think he was watching my car and wandered off the road.
All in all, a great trip, Missouri really surprised us with it's beauty and friendly people. Would we do it again? Maybe. _________________ I'm addicted to brake fluid but I can stop anytime I want.

Look forward to hearing all the stories. We had plans to travel to Stillwater (home of my alma mater Oklahoma State), visit with old friends (know the Kicker CEO, was just a broke kid like me growing up, he made it, I'm in the twilight of a mediocre career). I've had the Handyman apart for the last couple of months doing upgrades, reroutes of wiring, and new tires for the front. All finished, hit the starter, and the smell of raw fuel overtakes the senses. Find out that steel braided line is behaving like a soaker hose in lieu of fuel line. A trip to Able Hydraulics in Plano gets me fixd up eventualy with steel braid TEFLON hose. We miss Stillwater but will catch up on I35 for the drive to Arlington. Everything ready - hit the ignition - the smell of gas again. This time it is the steel braid hose near the gas tank. Great. Remove rear wheel and access the fitting through the trunk and remove the bad actor. Need a fitting ordered so blew plans for Hot Rod Power Tour and a showing at the Forest Lane Reunion Cruise. We did make an appearance on Forest Lane on Saturday - saw a few nice cars, including David's '56 Vette, but not the same driving a G35 so we made an early exit. Sour grapes for us this time around. We enjoyed our mini-Power Tour from Miami, OK thru Stillwater then home.
Spent Wed. night at Bill's brother's house in Vinita, OK just 20 miles from the Miami event. Thursday night in Diane's home town of Stillwater on the campus of Bill's alma mater Oklahoma State University in the Student Union facility where he took his Hotel & Restaurant training and where our wedding reception was 51 years ago. The chapel next to the hotel is where we were married. Had delicious Pizza at Hideaway Pizza on campus corner where the first pizza in Oklahoma was served way, way, way back in the late 50's.
