Are there any WRENCHES (or otherwise) guys out there who has a transmission jack I can borrow? I may need it for a longer period of time than I can afford at a tool rental place.

Real transmission jacks for working close to the floor are rare. Most of us simply put a square piece of 3/4 inch plywood on our floor jack and get after it. Like others, I've done score of heavy transmission changes with the old reliable floor jack. _________________ "A Classic Car is Not Aerodynamic" |

When I was eighteen I just lifted my four speed trans in place. At fortyfive for some reason the trans was not as easy to pick up as it was before.
I made the above floor jack into a trans jack. The cylinder burst a gasket and I threw the jack away.
At least it may give you an idea if you can't find a real jack.

John
I've pulled my 700R4 four times
1st time floor jack
2nd floor jack w/plywood support
both kinda worked
3rd & 4th time I used a trans jack adapter which is a trans jack that fits on your floor jack. This has a pin that replaces the 'cup' on your jack and works like a trans floor jack[ Northern sells them] 1/4" steel plate & adjustable
you can borrow mine and use with your floor jack

Thanks, Larry. Maybe I'll stop by Northern today or tomorrow and pick one up if it's not too expensive. If it is, I may take you up on borrowing yours. Hey, BTW, did you get the engine you were looking for? I have a SBC 400 motor I have listed on ebay. If it doesn't sell, you can have it. There are a couple of issues with it though. I'll have to explain further if you are interested. _________________ John Rush |
