High idle at start-up. Slows some after warm-up but still over 1000 rpm. Solution? |

Did you set the timing at 10 degrees with the diagnostic tool in "diag"?
The timing mark is zero so you have to put another mark on the damper (9/16" from zero) if you don't have a "dial-back" timing light. |

Idle after warm-up now: 800-825 rpm. Is that where it should be? Seems like it should be lower?6 |

My RamJet idles between 750 and 800, best I can tell on my small tach. It does seem faster than it needs to be. I thought about getting it tuned, to get better milage, HP and slower idle, but I've also heard stories about having it tuned has caused other problems. Mine is doing great, so I hate to kick any sleeping dogs.
P.S. Any body with a RamJet, please respond. |

Mine will idle around 800 also. I randomly and on rare occasions get a high idle RPM (1200 or so) when I first start it up, but it will fall back to normal in less than a minute. There are times when I first start it, begin driving with the AC on and I come to a stop (manual tranny) it will die and it restarts with no issue and will be fine afterwards. And that is only with the AC on, no AC on and I never have that issue. _________________ In My Garage -

Well, I'm going stop worrying about the idle rpm. 800-825 seems normal. after first 20 miles, I had a leak front and back on the oil pan and the rear diff was leaking, so fixed both. Changed to an aluminum pan to eliminate flex. Found some crud in the old pan? No metal though. Tack-welded the oil pickup tube to be safe. While I had it up, had a H-pipe welded in. Now on to the Upholstery shop... |

Anxious to see it on the road. It should be ready for the Lone Star Convention in May. See you there if not sooner. http://www.lonestarchevys.com/ |

I’m anxious and nervous to get the ‘55 on a long trip. Trying to work out all gremlins now but I know something will pop up time and again. Looking forward to club events and HRPT and Cruising The Coast... |
